Forthcoming Elections

Back to news

As London gears up for the forthcoming elections on Thursday, May 2nd, where a Mayor and members of the London Assembly will be elected, individuals who haven't yet registered to vote must do so by midnight on Tuesday, April 16th.

To register, simply visit the official government website at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

This electoral cycle marks a significant shift in Barnet, as it will be the first election in the borough to enforce voter ID requirements. The government implemented this measure in May 2023, mandating voters to present photo identification at polling stations.

To ensure compliance, all voters are strongly encouraged to review the list of acceptable forms of photo ID on the Electoral Commission website.

For those without any accepted forms of photo ID, there's an option to obtain a free Voter Authority Certificate, serving as a voter ID document. The deadline to apply for this certificate for the upcoming May 2nd elections is 5pm on Wednesday, April 24th.

Furthermore, individuals interested in casting their votes via post must submit their applications by 5pm on Wednesday, April 17th. Detailed instructions for postal voting applications can be found on the Barnet Council website: https://www.barnet.gov.uk/elections-and-voting/voting/apply-vote-post.
