The needs and challenges of a first time buyer.

In a recent survey carried out by it has become apparent the exterior of a property is of upmost importance with up to (29%) of respondents of first-time buyers and existing homeowners stating off street parking as being the most desirable feature. A close second at (26%) was outside space, consider this to a new kitchen (12%) and central heating at (12%) and the evidence is quite compelling.

You may think the demand for parking more than hints that potential purchasers are not public transport users, but a whopping (85%) of those asked wanted to be near transport links, Supermarkets(80%) and work (78%). A little surprisingly and maybe contrary to popular belief first-time buyers cared less about restaurants or bars, in fact only one in four and one in six respondents respectively picked them as being important.

When it comes to challenges the major problem for first time buyers was not surprisingly affordability (18%) but maybe a little more surprising was in the inability to find a property in the applicants chosen location, suggesting applicants research their chosen location and once decided want to stick within its boundaries.

So to take away the top three points from the survey we would say are;

Parking and outside space are the most wanted features in a home.

When choosing an area first-time buyers want good transport links, supermarket access and to be close to work.

The biggest challenges in buying a first home are finding a property within budget and in the right location.
